About the Author
Born the son of a military officer, Barış Güven spent his childhood and youth in various cities across Turkey. This early mobility instilled in him a lasting curiosity about different geographies, cultures, and stories. Güven graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Business Administration in 1996 and went on to live in England for long years.
After completing his MBA at London Metropolitan University, he returned to Turkey in 2003 and began his career in the private sector. His professional path later took him to Norway, the United Arab Emirates, and Algeria in turn, where he lived for a total of six years. Although he returned back to Turkey in 2024, he still visits various countries on regular basis as part of his work.
Barış Güven's earliest writing appeared in the anthologies "Being a Child in the '90s" and "There Is Such a Thing as Unhappy Love," published by Yitik Ülke Publishing. In 2021, his first book, "Blind Beggars," was released, followed in March 2025 by his debut novel, "Slave," both under the Papirüs Publishing.
The traces of his life in various countries can be felt throughout Barış Güven's writing: his stories and novel are rich with different geographies, cultures, and eras. His long-accumulated passion for history stands out as a distinct dimension of his literary work; in his texts, he often searches for the concerns of today's world within the broad, layered ground of the past.
